GENERAL MEETING
MAY 13-17, 2001, ST. PETERSBURG, RUSSIA
1. LOCATION
The meeting will be held at the Euler Institute (St. Petersburg,
Pesochnaya nab., 10). The place is near the river Malaya Nevka, at equal
distance (15-20 min. of walk) from the metro stations "Petrogradskaya" and
"Chernaya Rechka". Look at our metro scheme
and find the mark "X" on the map.

2. ACCOMODATION
For the persons who asked for this in the registration form, rooms have been
reserved at the "GROTS" hotel (Aerodromnaya street, 4) or at the student
hostel (Vyazemskii pereulok, 5).
The student hostel is at a walking distance from the Euler Institute.
Find the mark "SH" on the map.
The GROTS hotel is near the metro station "Pionerskaya", which is next to the
station "Chernaya Rechka" mentioned above. Look at the map.
The price at "GROTS" is $35 per night in a single room, or around $25 per
night in a double room. The prices at the student hostel are considerably
lower.
3. TRANSPORTATION
If you have not yet done so, please, give the details of your arrival
(company, flight, scheduled time, etc.) to Mrs.
Novikova, so that we could arrange a car from the
Euler Institute to pick you up at the "Pulkovo" international airport.
(Look for the poster "Euler International Mathematical Institute").
Alternatively, you may take the bus no. 13 at "Pulkovo" international
terminal, or a sity bus at the domestic terminal, which will bring you to
the metro station "Moskovskaya". It takes about 30 minutes to reach the
stations "Petrogradskaya" or "Chernaya Rechka" (by a direct train).
From both stations you may take the trolley-bus no.34, or the bus no. 46, to
Pesochnaya Naberezhnaya (two stops). The Euler Institute is at a 5 minutes
walk along the river.
CIS-participants who come by train may easily use metro - every railway
station has a nearby metro station.
4. REGISTRATION AND FEES
Registration desk will be open on May 13 at the Euler Institute from
9:00 (it will also be possible to register at the evening on May 12).
The conference will open on May 13 at 9:45. The participants who plan to
arrive later may register during the breaks. The registration fee is $120
per participant. Reduced rate of $60 is applied to pre-doctoral students.
The fee for accompanying persons is $15 per person. For the participants
working in the CIS countries the fee is covered by the organizing committee.
The other participants should pay the fee at the registration desk in cash.
5. MEALS
Lunches (at about 13:00) and dinners (at about 18:00) will be served for the
participants at the canteen of the "Statistical Office" (a building
not far from the Euler Institute, please find the mark "Z" on the map
The expected price of the meals is 175 rbl. per day. Also, coffee and tea will
be available at the Euler Institute (free of charge).
6. LECTURES
The schedule of the main lectures (1.5 hour long) is presented at our
web-page. Shorter talks (30 min long on the average) will be in the
afternoon except Tuesday, May 15 (see below). The timetable will be posted
on the web-page in the next few days. All submitted talks have been
accepted.
IMPORTANT! THE PARTICIPANTS WHO INTEND TO GIVE A TALK BUT HAVE NOT SUBMITTED
either the TITLE or (more important) the ABSTRACT
ARE KINDLY REQUESTED TO SEND US THIS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!
7. EXCURSION AND CONFERENCE DINNER
A city bus tour and the conference dinner will be scheduled for Tuesday
afternoon.
8. MONEY
US dollars, German marks, and Finnish marks are exchanged by all the
exchange offices; however other currencies may cause some difficulties
(bad rate or no bank to exchange). Now the average rate is 28.80 RBL for
1 USD. Personal and Traveller's checks, as well as Credit cards, are
usually accepted at all major banks in the city. Please, be careful and AVOID
exchanging your currency NEAR exchange offices.
9. WHEATHER
The weather is variable. Average temperature of May is about 12C. This
means that it is warmer in the day time. However, large deviations from the
average occur, and it may or may not be cold or warm in the second decade
of May with equal probability. It may be rainy.
